Rescue crews prepare for the worst

The Eugene Airport held a training exercise Wednesday morning in a test of airport aircraft rescue and firefighting and emergency response procedures for an aircraft accident. The exercise involved the Mobile Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting training unit. Above: A firefighter sprays a mock airliner with a flame retardant. Left: Firefighters pull dummies from the plane. In addition to Eugene Airport and Public Works Department staff, agencies participating in the exercise included: Eugene Fire Department, Lane Rural Fire District, Eugene Police Department, Eugene Risk Services, Lane County Sheriff's Office, Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration, United Express/Delta Connection, Horizon Air, Flightcraft, American Red Cross and Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
