Basketball team claims league title

Lebanon’s sixth-grade girls’ basketball ‘A’ team won the Valley League Championship on Feb. 27, defeating the North Albany Tigers 60-28 at Pioneer School.

The girls completed an undefeated march through the league this year.  Overall, the Lebanon Tornado is 23-6 so far this season.  Four of the six losses have come at the hands of seventh-grade teams from around the state.

The Tornado will play in two more tournaments in March before competing in the AAU state championships in Beaverton on April 5 and 6.

The team includes Ashley Jiles, Jenna Morch, Cianna Dickey, Maci Benedict, and Ellie Phillips, plus a very strong and deep bench consisting of Lauren Carroll, Marisa Stubbs, Rachel Wofenbarger and Jessie Sipos.

The team is coached by Doug Phillips, Chris Jiles and Mike Morch.

Team sponsors are Papé Material Handling, Morch Constrution, and Butte Creek Cutters.
